Recently, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar grabbed the attention of the entire nation by clearly stating to the United States that the rise of India, both economically and politically, is solely in the hands of Indians. This comes at a time when discussions are going on regarding the recent decision taken by the Indian government to allow an Iranian ship to dock at Kochi on humanitarian grounds. S Jaishankar clearly stated that although the Indian government desires to maintain excellent diplomatic relations with other nations, the decision on the docking of ships at ports is solely in the hands of the Indians.
The Iranian Ship Dock Controversy
Recently, an Iranian naval vessel was granted permission to dock at Kochi, after which the entire nation discussed the geopolitical implications of the move. However, it is important to note that the docking was purely on humanitarian grounds and was done in accordance with international laws. Speaking about the controversy surrounding the docking of the Iranian vessel at Kochi, S Jaishankar clearly stated that the Indian government does not take orders from other nations regarding the docking of vessels at ports.
A Stern Diplomatic Message to the US
S Jaishankar clarified that while India seeks strong relations with the US, external pressures or suggestions will not influence India’s policy decisions. He stressed that India’s growth and global standing will be determined independently, reflecting the nation’s growing confidence and strategic autonomy.
