Sharif Osman Hadi: Sharif Omar Hadi, the brother of July uprising frontliner and Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi, has alleged that a vested quarter within the interim government of Bangladesh planned the killing of his brother to derail the upcoming national election.
What Did Sharif Osman Hadi’s Brother Said?
Sharif Osman Hadi’s brother addressed the government at a “Shahidi Shopoth” (Martyr’s Oath) program organized by Inqilab Mancha in front of the National Museum at Shahbagh. He said it is the interim government of Muhammad Yunus that had got his brother killed. He went on to remark that it is now trying to delay or derail the election by using the death of his brother as an issue.
Omar said his now-dead brother Osman urged the authorities not to disturb the poll atmosphere. He added his late brother wanted the national elections in Bangladesh to be held in February.
Omar added Muhammad Yunus and his team would be compelled to flee Bangladesh one day if his brother does not get justice. He also remarked that his brother got killed because he did not bow to “foreign masters” or any agency.
A 30-working-day ultimatum was given by Inqilab Mancha Member Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber to the Yunus government to identify and arrest the killers.
Who was Sharif Osman Hadi?
An anti-India student leader associated with last year’s July uprising, Osman was shot at close range while travelling in a battery-powered rickshaw in Dhaka’s Bijoynagar area on December 12. Two motorcycle-borne assailants pulled up behind Osman’s vehicle and shot him in the head. Osman was rushed to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors found severe brain stem damage, before he was airlifted to Singapore.
On December 18, Osman died of his injuries, sparking widespread protests across Bangladesh. This included the lynching of an innocent Hindu young man. Dipu Chandra Das was beaten brutally by an angry mob before he died. His body was later burnt in open, accusing him of committing blasphemy that has never been proved.
