Congress MP and senior leader Shashi Tharoor has responded sharply to the criticism surrounding his recent comments on Indian military responses to terrorist attacks. In a late-night post, shared from Panama just hours before his departure to Bogota, Colombia, Tharoor clarified that his earlier remarks were being taken out of context by “zealots” and misinterpreted — possibly even by members within his own party.

Tharoor emphasized that his statements pertained only to India’s reprisals in response to terrorist attacks, not to the valor or actions of Indian armed forces during wartime. "I was clearly and explicitly speaking only about reprisals for terrorist attacks and not about previous wars," he wrote.
He added that his comments referenced the pattern of India’s responses over recent years, which he described as “restrained and constrained” due to the nation’s responsible approach toward respecting the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB).
'I Have Better Things to Do'
Expressing irritation at the distortion of his words, Tharoor wrote, "But as usual, critics and trolls are welcome to distort my views and words as they see fit. I genuinely have better things to do. Goodnight."
While the Congress leader did not directly name any individuals or party colleagues, his tone suggested frustration not just with online trolls but also with elements within the political spectrum that may have misunderstood or misrepresented his position.
As social media debates intensify around Tharoor’s remarks, his statement highlights the growing challenge of navigating nuanced political discourse in an age of viral soundbites and headline-fueled interpretations.
