Shradh 2023: Pitrapaksha holds immense significance within the Hindu faith as it spans 16 days dedicated to honouring our ancestors and forefathers. Throughout this period, people engage in prayer and showed reverence to their forebears, seeking their blessings. According to the Drik Panchang calendar, Pitru Paksha is set to commence on the Bhadrapada Purnima tithi, which falls on September 29, 2023, and will conclude on October 14, 2023.
This period is also commonly referred to as Shradh Paksha, during which Shraddh ceremonies are conducted to bring peace to the souls of the departed ancestors. It is a deeply held belief that performing Shraddh or Tarpan rituals for one's ancestors during Pitru Paksha serves to please them and alleviate any Pitrudosh afflictions.

Significance of Shradh
According to Hindu belief, for sixteen days during Pitru Paksha, the three generations of ancestors reside in Pitralok, a realm for the deceased. During this period, Yama, the god of death, liberates them to visit their living family members and receive offerings annually. Beyond presenting gifts, individuals also embark on pilgrimages to the sacred Ganges River to conduct Shradh and Pind Daan rituals.
Throughout Pitru Paksha, people engage in the worship of their ancestors, offering prayers, food, and clothing to honour their deceased family members. During these days, they invite Brahmin priests into their homes, providing them with pure and wholesome food and clothing. At the culmination of the ceremonies, they humbly touch the feet of the Brahmins and seek their blessings.
