Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar are separately leaving for New Delhi today May 24 to meet the Congress high command. The meeting will discuss cabinet expansion, and allocation of portfolios to existing Ministers.

DKS to meet Kharge today

On the other side, the Deputy CM D K Shivakumar is scheduled to leave Bengaluru will reach Delhi by evening. He is scheduled to meet AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge and other party leaders on Thursday.

Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar were sworn in as Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister, respectively, along with eight legislators as Ministers on May 20. Portfolios have not been allocated to the Ministers since then.

Plan to induct more ministers

According to Congress sources, the party high command had earlier planned to induct more ministers. However, in view of the differences between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar, only eight names were approved.

Allocation of portfolios to the new ministers and cabinet expansion is going to be tricky. Siddaramaiah has to strike a balance in having representatives from all communities, regions, factions. The tussle between the old and new generation of legislators will only make the task more difficult for the CM. There are too many aspirants for the sanctioned strength of 34 ministerial berths in the Karnataka Cabinet.
