Sitaram Yechury’s son Ashish Yechury passes away due to coronavirus

Communist Party of India(Marxist) general secretary Sitaram Yechury’s son Ashish passed away on Thursday morning due to COVID-19. He was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Gurugram. 

Sharing the unfortunate news on Twitter, the CPM leader thanked all those who gave them hope and treated his son in this tough times.

“It is with great sadness that I have to inform that I lost my elder son, Ashish Yechury to COVID-19 this morning. I want to thank all those who gave us hope and who treated him – doctors, nurses, frontline health workers, sanitation workers and innumerable others who stood by us,” Yechury tweeted.

Ashish was working with a leading newspaper in Delhi. He had recently turned 35 on June 9. Describing the sudden demise, people close to family told PTI that the death came as a shock to everyone as he was recovering well at the hospital.

Ashish was admitted to Holy Family Hospital but was shifted to Medanta Hospital two weeks later.

Meanwhile, as per the union health ministry, as many as 2,95,041 new COVID-19 cases and 2,023 deaths were reported. The country’s total infection tally stands at 1,56,16,130, including 21,57,538 active cases.
