Sonia Gandhi: In an editorial she wrote for The Hindu daily, Congress leader Sonia Gandhi took aim at the national government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Sonia wrote that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s words “either ignore the most pressing, vital issues of the day, or are platitudes and verbal gymnastics to gloss over or distract from these issues,” in the article headed “An enforced silence cannot solve India’s problems.”
Three democratic pillars of India are being systematically dismantled by the PM Modi-Sonia
She added that the three democratic pillars of India are being systematically dismantled by the PM Modi-led government at the centre. Sonia brought up the recent parliamentary disturbances and said that these were part of a government-led strategy to obstruct debate and prevent the Opposition from raising issues including unemployment, inflation, and social divisions, discussing the year’s Budget, and the Adani scam. She claimed that in order to defeat a determined Opposition, the central government was forced to take unprecedented measures. Here, Sonia Gandhi discussed Rahul Gandhi’s expulsion from the Lok Sabha and the deletion of portions of his speech from legislative records.

Congress leader also criticised Nirmala Sitharaman
Sonia Gandhi made the implication that these were only diversionary tactics to get the Union Budget 2023 passed, which called for spending close to Rs 45 lakh crore. Sonia Gandhi remarked in her editorial for The Hindu, ‘As a result, the Budget of 45 lakh crore of rupees of people’s money was passed without any debate.’ She said, ‘When the Finance Bill was rammed through the Lok Sabha, the Prime Minister was busy inaugurating projects in his constituency with widespread media coverage.’ The Congress leader also criticised Nirmala Sitharaman, the finance minister, for failing to address unemployment or inflation in her Budget speech. It’s as if these issues don’t even exist, Sonia wrote.
Media’s independence has been compromised-Sonia Gandhi
Asserting that ‘over 95% of political cases (are) filed only against Opposition parties,’ Sonia Gandhi further brought up the opposition’s claim that the government is misusing the central investigation agencies. She also stated that the cases against people who join the BJP are miraculously evaporating. The former president of the Congress claimed that the media’s independence has been compromised as a result of the government’s ‘political intimidation…coupled with the financial might of the BJP’s friends.’
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was ignorant of the violence
Sonia Gandhi charged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was ignorant of the violence and bigotry that the BJP and RSS were “egging on.” She claimed that Prime Minister Modi had ‘never called for peace or harmony or taken action to rein in offenders.’ Sonia’s criticism of religious holidays follows a recent uptick in violent crime across the country associated with Ram Navami celebrations. Numerous states, including West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Gujarat, reported widespread violence.
