The Supreme Court (SC) noted on Tuesday that cinema halls are private property and that the proprietors have the right to prevent patrons from bringing in outside food and drink.
"Viewers come to the hall to have fun. A J&K High Court order requesting multiplex and cinema hall owners not to forbid moviegoers from carrying their own food items and water inside cinema halls was set aside by a bench led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud. "They will have to abide by the terms and conditions subject to which the entry is granted," the bench said.

"Cinema theatres are privately owned. As long as the owner's terms and conditions do not conflict with the general welfare, safety, or interest of the public, they may be set. The proprietor is free to set the conditions for the sale of food and drink, and moviegoers are free to decline," it stated.+
