Supreme Court: Today the Supreme Court bench is going to give its verdict on whether Article 370 will return to Jammu and Kashmir or not. 2019 central government decision-making petitions will be heard by the nation's Supreme Court. Article 370 of the Constitution gave Jammu and Kashmir the status of a special state. which was eliminated with the constitutional amendment by the Modi administration.
Intensified Security Measures
Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have increased on-the-ground security and are closely monitoring social media ahead of the critical decision on Monday. Five individuals who posted inflammatory content and spread rumours on social media have also been the target of a case. However, Mehbooba Mufti, the leader of the PDP, is taken aback by what the J&K Police did prior to the decision.
Social Media Surveillance
We are monitoring social media activity and increasing the number of police and paramilitary forces stationed in sensitive areas, according to a senior Jammu and Kashmir police officer. "We have already established a few checkpoints, and both passengers and cars are being inspected." In order to prepare for any unfavourable effects of the decision, senior law enforcement and intelligence officials attended a special security review meeting on Friday night, which was presided over by Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Vijay Kumar, Law and Order.
District-Wide Vigilance
"All district heads are being stressed to keep an eye on the situation and take strict action against those involved in mischief, misinformation and misuse of social media," an official release said. Five social media users were the subject of a case that was filed the day following the meeting. The content of the post was kept a secret by the police, though. However, a case has been filed against one person from Baramul and two people from each of the districts of Budgam and Ganderbal.
Mehbooba Mufti's Allegation
Mehbooba Mufti, the leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), claimed that the police are requesting a list of her party employees. She said, “What I am hearing is that the list of our workers is being sought through police stations. I want to tell the Supreme Court that your responsibility is not to further the agenda of BJP but towards the integrity of the country."
Social Media Speculation
Two days before SC declares its verdict on Article 370, JK police declares punitive action against those ‘indulging in mischief on social media’ & ‘breachers of peace’. Seems like they already know the verdict. https://t.co/FsYaTnoqVc

At the same time, PDP leader and Mehbooba Mufti's daughter Iltija Mufti wrote on social media, "Two days before SC declares its verdict on Article 370, JK police declares punitive action against those ‘indulging in mischief on social media’ & ‘breachers of peace’. Seems like they already know the verdict.”
Daily Hearings Commence
Notably, on August 5, 2019, the Supreme Court listed the petitions contesting the Center's repeal of Article 370 and division of the former state of Jammu and Kashmir into Union Territories. On August 2, a five-judge apex court bench began holding daily hearings in the case. It then postponed making a decision on the petitions until September 5. The Supreme Court will render a decision today.
