The Supreme Court has given an important decision regarding the offline examinations of 10th and 12th board (10th-12th Board Exams). The court has refused to make the 10th-12th board exams online. In the hearing held on Wednesday, the Supreme Court dismissed the petition to cancel the offline examinations. The court said that the authorities should proceed with the examinations.
The court said that it will not interfere in this matter.
During the hearing, the bench reprimanded the petitioner that ‘hearing such petitions creates more confusion in the system. Last time’s verdict cannot become ideal, such petitions give false hope and confusion to the students, they will be misled by such petitions. Considering your petition is meant to create more confusion.’
A bench of Justice AM Khanwilkar, Justice Dinesh Maheshwari and Justice CT Ravikumar said that ‘this is a premature petition. The officials are already working on finalizing the dates and other arrangements. If there is any problem after finalizing them then the aggrieved party can approach the authorities.’
The court said that ‘whatever you have to say, go and tell the authority. This is an irresponsible misuse of PIL. What kind of petition do people also file.’
Lawyer and child rights activist Anubha Sahay Srivastava had filed an application demanding an alternative assessment method instead of offline examination. In the petition, there was a demand to cancel the 10th and 12th board physical examinations of all state boards, CBSE and ICSE. The petition also sought a direction to all the boards to declare the results on time and give alternatives to the reform examination due to the various challenges being faced. It has been said in the petition that due to Covid, there were no physical classes. In such a situation, board exams should be made online.
