Sonia Gandhi spoke at a meeting of the Congress Parliamentary Party and criticized the Modi government for not doing anything about the crises in Iran and Gaza. India Today reported that she said, "Our country's silence on the death and destruction in Gaza and Iran is nothing less than a shocking surrender of our values and our long history of speaking out for just causes."

Gandhi was upset about how India's place in the world had changed. India used to stand up for peace and humanitarian values, but now it just watches major international conflicts.

"The government has failed people at home, too."

Gandhi brought attention to problems in India as well as those in other countries. She talked about how trust in democratic systems is falling, and inflation and unemployment are going through the roof. She said that the government doesn't care about the problems that regular people are having and is ignoring important economic and social issues.

The veteran lawmaker also said that the ruling party keeps abusing investigation bodies such as the ED, CBI, and IT Department to silence criticism and scare off opponents.

Call for Congress Members to Do Something

Sonia Gandhi told Congress MPs that they should work together and speak out in the next sitting of Parliament. It was her advice that they should be brave when talking about problems at home and abroad, and to always hold the government responsible.

She said, "This is not just a political duty; it is a moral duty to the people of India and the values set out in our Constitution."

Congress is planning an aggressive strategy for the next session.

With the Budget Session coming up, Gandhi's comments show that the Congress is ready to fight the Center on many fronts. From the lack of action in foreign policy to the stress in the U.S. economy, Congress wants to bring up important problems that it says the government is avoiding on purpose.

As tensions rise around the world and unhappiness grows at home, the leadership of Congress is positioning itself as a voice for both national conscience and public responsibility.
