Taj Mahal Bags The Most-Visited Ticketed ASI Site for Domestic Tourists Title in 2021-22

The Taj Mahal: UNESCO world heritage site, topped centrally protected ticketed sites for domestic tourists in 2021–2022, according to a recent report provided by the Union Ministry of Tourism.

The Red Fort and the Qutub Minar, both UNESCO-recognized structures in Delhi, came in second and third place, respectively, behind the Mughal-era mausoleum, which at the time received the most visitors.

At a ceremony on Tuesday, Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar announced the publication of a 280-page report titled “India Tourism Statistics 2022.”

According to the report, “the number of foreign visitor arrivals (FTAs) during 2021 decreased to 1.52 million as opposed to 2.74 million in 2020, marking a 44.5 per cent negative growth.”

Covid era has been quite challenging

Due to COVID-19 in 2020, ASI installations were closed for more than four months before being reopened in July with safety procedures in place.

The vice president claimed in his speech that the epidemic made the previous two years “extremely tough” and that it had a significant impact on the tourism industry. However, looking back, it can be argued that India knows the path to go and that the nation is “out of the difficult phase,” he said.

In addition, he gave out the National Tourism Awards for 2018–19 at the Vigyan Bhawan event. Due to the Covid outbreak in India in early 2020, there was a two-year pause before the annual award event was held.

According to the “India Tourism Statistics 2022” study, India was ranked 54th globally on the Travel and Tourism Development Index (TTDI) in 2021.

Additionally, it stated that while foreign travel agreements (FTAs) saw a “negative growth rate” in 2021, non-resident Indians (NRIs) and foreign visitor arrivals (ITAs) saw a “positive growth.” NRI arrivals grew by 52.6% between 2020 and 2021.

The United States, Bangladesh, the United Kingdom, Canada, Nepal, Afghanistan, Australia, Germany, Portugal, France, the Maldives, Sri Lanka, Russia, Iraq, and the Netherlands were India’s top 15 source markets for free trade agreements in 2021. According to the research, the top 15 countries accounted for over 80.9% of all FTAs in India in 2021.

According to the report, tourism remains a significant source of revenue for the nation in terms of foreign exchange.

The report stated that the foreign exchange earnings (FEE) from tourism increased by 26.4% from USD 6.959 billion in 2020 to USD 8.797 billion in 2021.

Despite the COVID-19 ban, tourism rose steadily worldwide in 2021, it claimed.

According to the data, India received 677.63 million domestic tourist visits in 2021, up 11.05% from 610.22 million in 2020.

Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh are the two states that receive 140.65 million and 86.12 million domestic visitors, respectively, each year. According to the statistics, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra saw 1.23 million and 1.26 million foreign tourists respectively.
