Tamil Nadu: 31-year-old man hacked to death over personal animosity in Mayiladuthurai

Mayiladuthurai: A man named Kannan, 31, was hacked to death on Wednesday night, August 17, in Tamil Nadu’s Mayiladuthurai due to personal animosity. Police have opened an investigation and are looking for 15 people who were involved in the incident.

Kannan, the victim, used to work for a caste-based organisation and also owned an ambulance.

Kannan got into a fight with Kathiravan, a local, at a hotel in November 2021. Kathiravan filed a police report as a result of this. Kannan was arrested and charged under the Goondas Act after police received several complaints against him.

Kannan was released from jail about 15 days ago, and on Wednesday night, August 17, he went out with his friends Ranjith and Diwakar.

Kathiravan, his friend Ajith, and a few others were arguing with Kannan and his friends at the time. Kannan was hacked to death despite Ranjith and Diwakar’s escape.

A police team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Vasanth Raj arrived at the crime scene and sent the body for autopsy.

Officials were able to identify the attackers using CCTV images from the area. Kathiravan, Ajith, and 13 other people have been charged. A manhunt is underway to find the accused.
