Poonch: There are worries that terrorist strikes like the recent ambush on an Army truck that killed five troops may “repeat” in a number of different ways since Pakistan-based terror groups have developed numerous such plots to “jeopardise” India’s G20 leadership.
The plan was to attack an Army convoy
Top-level intelligence sources claimed that while there was “situational awareness” of People’s Anti-Fascist Front (PAFF), a Jaish-e-Mohammed affiliate, operating in that area and preparing something big, there was no specific intelligence of an attack similar to the one that took place last Thursday in Poonch. It was initially stated that the Army truck had caught fire for this reason. The plan, according to intelligence sources, was to attack an Army convoy, and measures were taken to deal with the situation. The five guys went shopping for food for the iftar on Thursday as Eid celebrations in the village of Sangiote were still going strong but had now been postponed.
A significant crackdown has been prepared
According to the sources, Pakistan has been “somewhat” preserving the truce along the border in accordance with the agreement signed in February 2021, but on the other hand, it has been organising operations of this nature. Another source claims that the PAFF is identical to the JeM in terms of how they do such operations, their cadres, and their handlers, who are starting to reactivate in this area. The source added that a significant crackdown has been prepared and will be executed right now, along with door-to-door search operations in Jammu’s border regions. Furthermore, it appears that early investigations have not ruled out the possibility that the terrorists may have employed cutting-edge weapons like Kalashnikovs and rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs).

Significant decrease in violence since Article 370 was repealed in 2019
In light of the escalating tensions with China, the administration has decided to put a “indefinite hold” on the process of gradually reducing the size of the armed forces, working with the Indian Army. Although there has been a significant decrease in violence in the Valley since Article 370 was repealed in 2019, the source continued, violent instances like these cannot be ruled out. Furthermore, it is anticipated that the terrorist groups will stop at nothing to obstruct the government’s plans to organise G20 activities in J&K.

National Conference Leader warned against the arrest of ‘innocent people’
The tragedy has unavoidably sparked a political brawl in the area, and the suffering of the J&K people continues even as India loses more of its brave and young warriors. Farooq Abdullah, the leader of the National Conference (NC), warned against the arrest of “innocent people” on Saturday despite the fact that the investigative process has officially started. The BJP condemned his remarks and charged that he cast doubt on the efficacy of the investigative authorities. Singh, a former principal director of the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS), claims that ‘We cannot eradicate terrorism by concentrating only on eliminating terrorists because those who die are swiftly replaced by others driven by the same radical ideology, and banned groups frequently resurface under new names and identities.’
