TMC candidate from Khardaha dies of COVID, CM Mamata expresses grief

Dyas before the results of the mega election in West Bengal, Trinamool Congress leader Kajal Sinha has died of COVID. He was the party's candidate from the Khardaha constituency.

In a tweet, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has said that she was "shocked".

"Very, very sad. Shocked. Kajal Sinha, our candidate from Khardaha, succumbed to Covid. He dedicated his life to serving people & just fought a tireless campaign. He was a long-serving committed member of @AITCofficial. We will miss him. My condolences to his family & his admirers (sic)," she tweeted.

The state which is electing its next government saw its record spike in the cases of COVID-19 since the election campaign has begun.

Yesterday the state saw its highest spike in cases with 14,281 new additions. Meanwhile, the nation also reported around 3.5 lakh cases in the last 24-hours.
