The data of about 400 million users of the microblogging site Twitter has been stolen. This data has been stolen by a hacker and made available for sale on the dark web. The stolen data includes users’ names, email IDs, number of followers and even phone numbers of users.

According to media reports, the data leak also includes data from the accounts of the Indian Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the US space agency NASA. Before this, personal data of about 5.4 million or 54 lakh users of Twitter was leaked.

According to media reports, hackers have also stolen data of accounts of high profile people like Salman Khan, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Space X and World Health Organization (WHO). The hacker wrote in his post, “Twitter or Elon Musk, if you are reading this post, you are already at risk of GDPR fines for data leak of over 54 million users. Now fines for data leak of 400 million users.”

Former security chief warned

The hacker has offered to sell the stolen data through an intermediary. Experts say that data may leak due to any shortcoming in the API. Recently Twitter’s former security chief Yoel Roth had called Twitter insecure under Musk’s leadership and also threatened users’ data. He had said that the company did not have enough staff to ensure safety. The company has sacked most of its employees, which can also increase the risk of users’ data.

Data leak of 5.4 million users

Earlier, personal data of about 5.4 million or 54 lakh users of Twitter was made available for sale after the leak. According to a report by Re-Store Privacy, the hacking of users’ data took place in 2022 this year. For your information, this data leak was caused by the same bug for which Twitter had given $ 5,040 that is Rs 4,02,386 to a hacker named Zhirinovskiy under the bug bounty program. The hacker made the data available for sale on the hackers forum. Users’ passwords were not included in this data leak.
