Prime Minister Narendra Modi mourned the passing away of actor-turned-politician Naresh Kanodia and musician-turned-politician Mahesh Kanodia on Tuesday.
While Naresh Kanodia died on Tuesday, his brother Mahesh Kanodia breathed his last on Sunday. Mahesh Kanodia was suffering from prolonged illness whereas Naresh Kanodia was on ventilation support after contracting the novel coronavirus.
Taking to Twitter, PM Modi paid the tribute and posted a picture with the two brothers.
“In a span of two days, we have lost both Maheshbhai and Nareshbhai Kanodia. Their contributions to the world of culture, especially popularising Gujarati songs, music and theatre will never be forgotten. They also worked hard to serve society and empower the downtrodden,” he wrote.
A veteran actor, Naresh Kanodia worked over 300 Gujarati films and was honoured with presitgious Dadasaheb Phalke Academy Award in 2012.
Mahesh Kanodia, who was the former MP from Patan Loksabha constituency, carved a niche for himself in the Gujarati music indusry.
Both brothers were renowned figures of Gujarat entertainment industry and also played importnat roles in shaping political dynamics.
Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani also expressed his sadness on the demise of Naresh Kanodia.
“With his acting, he had gained a special place in the heart of moviegoers in Gujarat for decades. His contribution in Gujarati film industry would be remembered forever,” he said in an obituary.
“With his acting skills he has ruled over hearts for decades. His contribution to the Gujarati film industry will remain unforgettable.” BJP state president C R Paatil, too, paid tribute to the late actor-politician.
