UK-India Relations: PM Modi and UK PM Rishi Sunak to Meet in Bali during the G-20 Summit

UK-India Relations: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his new British colleague Rishi Sunak decided to meet during the G-20 leadership meeting, which will take place in Bali, Indonesia, in the middle of November.

The presidents “also agreed to work together as two great democracies to support the developing economies of the world, and looked forward to meeting in person at the G20 in Indonesia,” according to a statement released by 10 Downing Street.
In the statement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed congratulations on the new position on behalf of the 1.6 billion Indians.

A number of leaders, including PM Modi, spoke with UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Thursday. Despite the fact that the two presidents individually greeted one another, interpreters sat through their conversation.

Modi emphasised on concluding FTA between the two countries

PM Modi stressed the need of quickly concluding the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the two countries, which had been planned to be completed by Diwali by the previous administration but was postponed due to the political upheaval that England has seen in recent months.
“Glad to speak to Rishi Sunak today,” PM Modi tweeted after his conversation with Prime Minister Sunak congratulating him on taking office as UK Prime Minister.

We would cooperate to further strengthen our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, he continued. We also concurred on the significance of rapidly concluding a thorough and equitable FTA.

The statement released by 10 Downing Street stated that “the prime minister hoped the UK and India could continue to make strong progress in negotiations to finalise a comprehensive Free Trade Agreement.”

Rishi Sunak’s response to PM Modi’s Tweet

Rishi Sunak responded to PM Modi’s tweet by thanking him for his “warm sentiments” when he was settling into his “new responsibility.”

India and the UK have a lot in common. In his tweet, Prime Minister Sunak stated, “I’m thrilled about what our two great democracies can do as we expand our security, defence, and economic collaboration in the months and years ahead.

The UK Prime Minister’s office released a statement saying, “Discussing shared global issues, the Prime Minister applauded Prime Minister Modi’s efforts on fighting climate change and the leaders welcomed chances to deepen our security, defence, and economic collaboration.”
The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak, declared that he was a physical manifestation of the long-standing relationships between India and the UK and that he intended to build on these ties to bring the two nations even closer together.
