Former JNU student leaders Umar Khalid and Khalid Saifi have got relief from the Delhi court. The reason, Delhi's Karkardooma Court has acquitted both of them in a case of Delhi riots. Till now both were on bail in this case. But they are in judicial custody in the UAPA case regarding the conspiracy of riots.

Actually, this case against both of them was registered on the basis of the statement of a constable. In which he said that in February 2020, a huge crowd had gathered near the Chand Bagh Pulia. The one who threw stones In that both of them were also ahead. Additional Sessions Judge Pulastya Paramachal has given this decision after a detailed hearing on the basis of FIR No. 101/2020 registered at Khajuri Khas Police Station.

Sections 109, 114, 147, 148, 149, 153-A, 186, 212, 353, 395, 427, 435, 436, 452, 454, 505, 34 and A case was registered under 120-B.

Last October itself, the Delhi High Court had rejected Umar Khalid's bail plea. The verdict was given by the bench of Justice Siddharth Mridul and Justice Rajneesh Bhatnagar. Umar Khalid had filed an application in the High Court challenging the decision of the lower court to reject the bail application. But he did not get relief from here also.

Khalid was arrested in 2020

Umar Khalid was arrested by the Delhi Police in September 2020 in connection with the riots in North East Delhi in the month of February 2020. Along with Sharjeel Imam and a few others, the Delhi Police had registered a case under UAPA and other sections of the IPC, naming Umar Khalid as the main accused.
