UP Government Demands CBI probe over Hathras Gang Rape Case

The nation-wide outrage on the Hathras gang rape case sees a massive stride on Saturday. Media and Politicians were allowed for the first time to meet the family of the rape victim.
Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and 5 other Congress leaders met rape victim family members.

The Uttar Pradesh police had earlier cremated the dead body of the 19-year-old rape victim without the permission of her family members.

After a continued protest by Indian media and the opposition, the Uttar Pradesh government ordered a CBI probe into the matter.

"Chief Minister @myogiadityanath Ji has ordered the CBI to conduct a probe into the entire Hathras case," the UP Chief Minister's office tweeted.

The Uttar Pradesh police are also alleged to torching the family members of the rape victim and they kept them under the house arrest.

The family members also said that the DM of Hathras did everything to make the family quiet under constant fear.

Other than Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, UP government officials and police - DGP HC Awasthy and Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Awasthi - also went to Hathras on Saturday to meet the family members.
