Uttar Pradesh: Yogi govt extends weekend lockdown by 24 hours

With the surge in the cases of COVID-19, the Uttar Pradesh government on Thursday had decided to increase the duration of weekend lockdown by 24 hours.

“The weekend closure will now be applicable from Friday 8 pm till Tuesday 7 am,” Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Navneet Sehgal said here.

Now the lockdown will follow on Monday as well and all the shops and establishments will remain closed between Friday 8 PM and Tuesday 7 AM.

Currently, the weekend lockdown in the state is just on Saturday and Sunday with the night curfew on weekdays.

Political, religious, entertainment gatherings are prohibited within this duration. Only 50 people will be allowed at the weddings, 20 at funerals. Malls, cinemas halls, restaurants, bars, the sports complexes will remain shut.

Meanwhile, all the public transport, rail, metro buses, cabs will run at 50% capacity. Both private and public offices are allowed to work with 50% of staff in the office.
