Uttarakhand Government Suspends 14 Patanjali Products! Ramdev, Balkrishna Face Criminal Complaint

The herbal remedy industry is rocked by Uttarakhand's move to revoke licenses for 14 Patanjali products and the criminal complaint against Ramdev and Balkrishna.

Patanjali: The Uttarakhand government has suspended the licenses for 14 Patanjali goods in an order dated April 15. A criminal case has been filed against Ramdev, Acharya Balkrishna, and Patanjali for breaking the Drugs and Magic Remedies Acts.

The Affected Patanjali Products

The items for which the licenses have been suspended are: Livamrit Advance, Livogrit, Eyegrit Gold, Patanjali Drishti Eye Drop; Mukta Vati Extra Power; Lipidom; Bp Grit; Madhugrit; Madhunashini Vati Extra Power; and Swasari Gold, Vati, Bronchom, and Avaleh.

The action takes place during a Supreme Court hearing concerning Ramdev and Balkrishna, the managing director of Patanjali, for violating court orders prohibiting Patanjali Ayurved from airing deceptive commercials on health remedies.

Smear Campaign Against Medical Systems

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) is presenting a 2022 appeal before the supreme court, claiming that there is a smear campaign against contemporary medical systems and the Covid immunization campaign. The court had demanded a public apology from Patanjali Ayurved Ltd., Ramdev, and his assistant Acharya Balakrishnan last month for disobeying its directives over deceptive advertisements.

Contempt Allegations Addressed

A bench of Justices Hima Kohli and Ahsanuddin Amanullah grilled Ramdev and Balkrishna during last week’s hearings in order to address allegations of contempt of court. The charges stemmed from a series of advertisements that made the claim that Patanjali products could cure various diseases, which was a blatant disregard for the top court’s prior orders as well as an assurance given by Patanjali in this regard.

When Ramdev answered, “Why would you say any other system is not good?” he offered a “unqualified and unconditional apology” for his actions. Ramdev declared that he has never tried to disparage contemporary medicine or any other kind of medicine.

Patanjali’s Apology Redux

In response to Patanjali’s advertisements, Ramdev and Balkrishna submitted a “unconditional and unqualified apology” to the Supreme Court. But after the bench questioned them about the scope and visibility of the apology, Patanjali released a fresh apology to the public in newspapers on Wednesday, April 24.

“In wake of an ongoing matter before the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, we in our individual capacity as well as on behalf of the Company, unconditionally apologise for the non-compliance or disobedience of directions/orders of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India,”  This time, Patanjali’s “unconditional public apology” is written in a larger, more readable type.
