Uttarakhand Polls 2022: SP releases list of first 20 candidates

Samajwadi Party (SP) has released the first list of candidates on 30 assembly seats of Uttarakhand for the upcoming polls on Sunday. Lakshmi Devi, Sunita Rikhari and Manisha are fielded from Bageshwar, Ranikhet and Bazpur respectively.

The Election Commission on Saturday announced the ban imposed by it on public rallies and road shows will continue till January 22. While announcing the poll schedule for Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa, Punjab and Manipur on January 8, the poll panel had taken an unprecedented step by banning public rallies, road shows and similar physical campaigning events till January 15 in view of rising COVID-19 cases.

Meanwhile, BJP is yet to release its list of candidates for the mountain state. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday had said that he will contest the upcoming Assembly polls in the state from the Khatima constituency and said that the BJP's list of candidates will be announced soon.

The Chief Minister added that they have set a target of winning more than 60 seats out of the 70 seats in the Assembly through a slogan ''Abki Baar 60 Paar'. In the last Assembly election, BJP secured the win on 57 seats out of 70 Assembly constituencies in Uttarakhand.
