India’s Chief Economic Advisor (CEA), Dr. V. Anantha Nageswaran, has sent a strong message about trade ties around the world, saying that India is not ready to give up under pressure from other countries. At the 125th anniversary party of the Bharat Chamber of Commerce in Kolkata, he was hopeful that the ongoing problem of high US tariffs on Indian products would be solved in a way that benefits both sides within the next 8–10 weeks.

At the time of his speech, trade issues between the two countries were a worry for exporters, especially in steel, aluminum, and textiles.

Hope for a US-India Tariff Resolution

Business leaders were reassured by Dr. Nageswaran that talks with Washington are going well. “This is something that needs time and more talks.” India and the US both know that trade that goes more smoothly is good for both of them. “There should be a solution in two months,” he said.

He said that tariffs should not get in the way of the growing strategic and economic relationship between the two countries. Too much is at stake for that to happen.

India’s Strong Economy drew attention to

The CEA also used the chance to talk about how strong India’s economic basics are, even though there are a lot of unknowns in the world right now, like rising prices, problems in the supply chain, and political unrest. He said that India’s growth is due to high demand at home, new technologies, and structural changes made in the last few years.

“India’s performance stands out when compared to those of advanced economies that are having a hard time with slower growth.” His words, “We are positioned as one of the few large economies still able to sustain momentum.”

Bharat Chamber’s History in Focus

The event, which honored the Bharat Chamber of Commerce’s 125th anniversary, set the scene for what he said. The Chamber is one of India’s oldest trade organizations. For more than one hundred years, it has been very important in shaping policy talks, promoting trade, and looking out for business interests.

Leaders of the Chamber liked Dr. Nageswaran’s words of hope because they gave exporters and businesses confidence as they navigated the uncertain dynamics of global trade.
