The much-anticipated Vande Bharat Express, now equipped with advanced features for cold mountainous terrains, is ready to tackle the harsh winters of the Kashmir Valley. Dilip Kumar, Executive Director of Information & Publicity, Railway Board, revealed that this train has been specifically designed to ensure uninterrupted operations even during snowfall.
Speaking about the enhancements, Kumar stated, “Safety features have been developed in the train so that operations are not affected during snowfall in the Kashmir Valley. The loco-pilot cabin and the screen have all been specially designed to meet the challenges of extreme cold. Heaters have been installed in the coaches to keep passengers warm, and the water system has been modified to prevent freezing.”
The Vande Bharat Express is being heralded as a breakthrough in connecting remote and challenging regions, with its ability to withstand the sub-zero temperatures typical of the area. The Railway Board has also confirmed that the crucial infrastructure, including the railway line and the iconic Chenab Bridge, is fully prepared for the train’s launch.
Although the official launch date of this special service has yet to be announced, all necessary arrangements have been completed to ensure smooth operations. The introduction of this train is expected to significantly enhance connectivity to Kashmir, providing a comfortable and efficient travel option for residents and tourists alike.
This development is part of Indian Railways' broader strategy to modernize its fleet and improve accessibility in difficult terrains. The train's advanced heating system and weather-resistant feature promise to deliver a seamless travel experience, regardless of the region’s severe climatic conditions. Once operational, the Vande Bharat Express will further strengthen India's rail network and foster greater integration between the plains and the mountains.
