Varanasi Rising Ganges Water-Level Disrupts Normal Life

The rapidly rising water level of river Ganga in Varanasi reached near the warning point in the afternoon on Sunday. In such a situation, the difficulties of the people living in the banks of the river Varuna along with the Ganges have increased. Water has entered many colonies, due to which most people have migrated to the upper areas. Some people are camping on the roofs of their houses and are hoping for the water to settle down and recede.

However, the rising water level of Ganga is also expected to stabilize by the officials from Sunday afternoon onwards.

According to the data of the Central Water Commission, the water level of Ganga reached 69.77 meters at 10 am on Sunday. At the same time, till 8 pm on Saturday night, the water level was at 69.62 meters.

It should also be mentioned that the danger point of Ganga water level in Varanasi is 71.262 meters and the warning is 70.262 meters.

In view of the rising water level of the Ganges, NDRF has been deployed in the Ganga banks and flood relief teams have also been instructed to be vigilant.

In view of the rising water level in the Ganga, the Water Police and NDRF have already been alerted. Continuous patrolling is being done by NDRF and water police and people coming to take bath in river Ganga are being prevented from going into deep water.

On Saturday, District Magistrate Kaushalraj Sharma took stock of the rising water level of Ganga river along with other officials including Water Police and NDRF.

Due to rising water level, people living in coastal areas are facing problems while crops in rural areas have also been submerged. Hundreds of acres of crops have been submerged in villages of coastal areas under Kashi Vidyapeeth, Araji Line, Harhua, Sewapuri, Baragaon, Chiraigaon, Cholapur etc blocks of Varanasi district.
