VB G RAM G Bill: Arun Govil, the Bhartiya Janta Party’s MP from Meerut and reel world’s Shri Ram, has spoken against the political hypocrisy of opposition parties.
What’s The Issue?
The ruling NDA government recently changed the name of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act 2005, popularly known as MGNREGA, to Viksit Bharat–Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM G) Bill, 2025.
The deletion of Mahatma Gandhi’s name sparked nationwide controversy. Political parties such as Congress have blasted the ruling government.
What Changed Between MGNREGA and the new Bill?
MGNREGA offered a statutory guarantee of 100 days of wage employment every year to every rural household whose adult members volunteer for unskilled, manual work. In contrast, the VB G RAM G Bill offers a statutory guarantee of 125 days of wage employment every year to every rural household whose adult members volunteer for unskilled, manual work.
On Thursday, the Viksit Bharat–Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM G) Bill, 2025, was passed in Lok Sabha.
In another development, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has remarked that the state’s Karmashree scheme would be renamed in honour of Mahatma Gandhi.
NDA ally Telugu Desam Party (TDP supported the Vikas Bharat–Garib Kalyan (VB-GRAM-G) Bill but remarked Hyderabad is a revenue-deficient state. He added that the state would face mounting challenges in contributing the mandatory 4 percent state share for centrally sponsored schemes.
