Veteran Congress leader and former Delhi minister AK Walia died on Thursday morning. Walia was infected with coronavirus disease and was undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospital in Delhi. He was 72.
He was MLA for four consecutive terms in Delhi. He was a member of the first, second, third and fourth Legislative Assemblies of Delhi. He represented the Laxmi Nagar Assembly seat in the Assembly during his fourth term after winning it four the three consecutive terms. However, his seat ceased to exist after 2008 delimitation.
Walia served as a minister in Shiela Dikhshit’s government for 15 years. He had held Health, Urban Development, Land & Building portfolios. He was also the Chairman of Trans Yamuna Area Development Board.
