    • 233 elected Rajya Sabha members
    • 12 nominated members
    • 543 elected Lok Sabha members
    • Total Strength: 786 members
  • Majority Needed: 394 votes for victory

Numbers Favor NDA

The numbers are clearly stacked in favor of the ruling NDA:

  • Lok Sabha Support: 293 members
  • Rajya Sabha Support: 129 members
  • Total NDA Backing: 422 votes

This gives CP Radhakrishnan a comfortable lead over Justice Sudershan Reddy, making the NDA’s candidate the frontrunner in this election.

Why This Election Is Important

The election was necessitated by Jagdeep Dhankhar’s resignation on July 21, 2025, citing health reasons. His resignation, submitted under Article 67(a) of the Constitution, took effect immediately. Dhankhar had been serving as Vice President since 2022 and was earlier the Governor of West Bengal (2019-2022).
