Weather Update: A cold-wave warning had been issued earlier by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), which predicted a gradual rise of approximately 2 degrees Celsius over the next four days, with no significant change over Northwest India in the next twenty-four hours. The IMD has declared an orange alert for a cold wave for today. Dense fog brought on by the bitter cold disrupted rail and air traffic. Visibility at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi plummeted to zero metres, causing multiple aircraft delays and cancellations.

According to IMD, there is a high probability of dense to extremely dense fog over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, as well as isolated areas of Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and north Madhya Pradesh. Over Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Bihar, Jharkhand, Assam & Meghalaya, as well as Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, there will be isolated pockets of dense fog. Temperatures of a cold day to extremely cold day are probably present in certain areas of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Some regions of Uttarakhand, Punjah, and Haryana-Chandigarh experience chilly daytime temperatures. There's a good chance that certain areas of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh-Delhi, and north Rajasthan will experience cold wave to extremely cold wave conditions. Lightning and hail are likely to accompany the thunderstorm in isolated areas over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh.
