Weather Update

Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued its latest weather forecast on Sunday (August 27), cautioning about the likelihood of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya until Monday. The Met Office’s statement attributes this weather pattern to the interplay between a cyclonic circulation over western Assam at lower tropospheric levels and the western segment of the monsoon trough, which is aligned along the Himalayan foothills.

IMD predicts rainfall in several states

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated the possibility of light to moderate widespread rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning across East and Northeast India in the upcoming five days. The IMD also noted that this region has experienced rainfall below the average during the current monsoon season.

The weather office has further predicted the occurrence of rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, in multiple states across Northern India until August 31. Similarly, parts of Odisha can expect similar weather conditions on August 30 and 31. The weather department has also forecasted reduced rainfall activity across the remaining parts of the country for the upcoming five days.

During the upcoming five days, Northeast India is anticipated to encounter a combination of light to moderate and fairly widespread rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Additionally, isolated instances of heavy rainfall are also expected across the region.

NorthEast braces for heavy rainfall

According to the weather update provided by the IMD, Assam and Meghalaya are expected to experience heavy rainfall on August 28. Furthermore, the IMD has issued yellow and orange warnings for several states in Northeast India, including Assam and Meghalaya, for today.

Across the eastern regions of the country, encompassing Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, the upcoming days are expected to bring light to moderate fairly widespread rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. The Meteorological Department also indicates the possibility of isolated cases of heavy rainfall.

Shifting focus to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the weather forecast suggests that isolated instances of heavy rainfall could occur on August 28-29. The IMD has additionally forecasted light to moderate scattered rainfall in certain areas of Southern India today, particularly in northern Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.
