Weather Update: IMD alerts heavy rain over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and Northeast India over the next 5 days

Weather Update: Several parts of India are expected to experience heavy rain in the coming days. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy rain is expected over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal-Sikkim, northeast India, and the extreme south Peninsular over the next five days.

Meanwhile, similar weather is expected in Uttarakhand and Bihar till August 30, as well as Himachal Pradesh and east Uttar Pradesh on August 28 and 29. The monsoon trough at mean sea level runs close to the foothills of the Himalayas.

Heavy rainfall in Eastern part of nation

Over the next few days, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, and Mizoram are likely to experience heavy rain. “Fairly widespread/widespread light/moderate rainfall with isolated heavy falls and thunderstorm/lightning very likely over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura during 27th-29th and over Arunachal Pradesh and Assam & Meghalaya during next 5 days.”

Over the eastern part of the country, heavy showers are also expected. “Fairly widespread/widespread light/moderate rainfall with isolated heavy falls & thunderstorm/lightning very likely over Bihar during 27th-29th; Jharkhand on 28th; southeast Uttar Pradesh on 28th & 29th and over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim during next 5 days” said IMD in its weather bulletin. On Sunday, Bihar may experience isolated, very heavy rainfall.

Isolated heavy rain over Northern and South-eastern states

The IMD forecasted isolated heavy rain with thunderstorms or lightning over the Western Himalayan region, which included Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Heavy rain is forecasted in Himachal Pradesh on August 28 and29, and in Uttarakhand till August 29. Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh are among the southern Indian states expected to experience heavy rainfall over the next five days.

The weather agency said, “Fairly widespread/widespread light/moderate rainfall with isolated heavy falls and thunderstorm/lightning very likely over North Interior Karnataka on 27th, 30th & 31st; Coastal Andhra Pradesh on 27th & 28th; Telangana during 27th-29th; Rayalaseema during 27th-30th; Coastal Karnataka on 30th & 31st and over Tamil Nadu, Kerala & Mahe and South Interior Karnataka during next 5 days”.
