Today, the Indian Metrological Department (IMD) provides information on the current weather conditions, including temperature, wind, humidity, and other variables. Know about the rains, thunderstorms and wind speed
There is a very good chance of isolated thunderstorms with lightning and strong winds (up to 40 kmph) over Kerala, Mahe, the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and Lakshadweep. Over the South and adjacent Central Arabian Sea, squally weather (wind speed 45–55 kmph with gusts to 65 kmph) is highly likely. It is advised against fishing in certain regions. Over South Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Kerala & Mahe, heavy rainfall is extremely likely to occur in isolated locations.
Orange and yellow alert in these states
A orange alert has been issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in the districts of Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, and Idukki. In addition to these four districts, there are a few more where isolated severe rainfall is predicted and yellow advisories have been issued. According to IMD, a cyclonic circulation can extend up to 3.1 km above sea level over the Southeast Arabian Sea and the surrounding Lakshadweep area. This circulation is expected to develop across the Southeast and adjacent East Central Arabian Sea within the next 48 hours.
