Weather Update: A fresh easterly wave and the aforementioned Low Pressure Area are expected to cause light to moderate rainfall in some locations over south Tamil Nadu, south Kerala, and Lakshadweep between January 1, 2024, and January 4, 2024, with isolated heavy rainfall over Lakshadweep on January 2, 2024. On January 1, 2024, there is a good chance of snowfall and light rain in isolated areas over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad. It is highly probable that there will be light, isolated rainfall in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh on January 02–04, 2024.

In addition, Rajasthan, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh have all been issued an orange alert for January 1. A warning has been released by the weather service due to the likelihood of heavy fog and extremely low temperatures. For much of Central and Northwest India over the next two days, there was likely to be a drop in maximum temperatures of two to three degrees Celsius, while the rest of the country might not see any notable changes in minimum temperatures. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Delhi and certain areas of Punjab for January 1, 2024, meaning that these areas will likely experience heavy fog and cold temperatures when they awaken.
