West Bengal minister Jakir Hossain hurt in crude bomb attack in Murshidabad

West Bengal Minister of State for Labour Jakir Hossain was hurt after a crude bomb attack at them late on Wednesday evening. According to reports, some miscreants at Nimtiita railway station of Murshidabad district hurled crude bomb at him which also hurt two others besides the minister.

He was waiting at platform number 2 of the station to catch the train to Kolkata 10 pm. The minister was targeted when he was boarding the train to Kolkata at Nimtita Railway station, the reports suggested.


“We have started an investigation,” a senior police official told PTI that a large police contingent was posted at Nimtita railway station.

The minister and two other persons have sustained serious injuries. They have been admitted to Jangipur Sub-divisional Hospital, the police official said.

The videos of the attack that have now gone viral on the social media and was also aired by local news channels show the Minister along with his supporters walking to board the train when a huge explosion took pace.

Senior minister and TMC leader Malay Ghatak has accused “political rivals of the party” for the attack.

“He has successfully conducted rallies where thousands of people participated. It’s the work of our political rivals. They wanted to kill Jakir,” Ghatak said.

West Bengal Congress president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, who hails from the district, said, “Jakir is an honest leader unlike several others in the TMC in Murshidabad. I know him personally. I request the state government to arrest the culprits as soon as possible.”

BJP national general secretary in-charge of Bengal Kailash Vijayvargiya and the party’s state president Dilip Ghosh also condemned the attack on the minister. .

“I strongly condemn the crude bomb attack on TMC minister Jakir Hossain at Nimtita railway station, Murshidabad. I pray for speedy recovery of the injured,” Vijayvargiya said in a tweet.

“This shows that West Bengal is not safe even for ministers. The law and order has totally failed,” Ghosh said.
