The space fraternity of India is in wide expectation as astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla, who has completed his 18-day trip in the International Space Station (ISS), is preparing to land back on Earth. As stated by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), on July 15, 2025, at 3 PM IST, Shukla with the Crew Dragon spacecraft will splash down in the Pacific Ocean near the coast of California after a range of orbital incisions and undocking processes.

This endeavour has brought Shukla to be among the most important contributors to Indian space success. During his visit, he carried out microgravity research, conducted scientific experiments, and also provided students back home with information, lending the Indian space program a human edge.

7-Day Rehab and Isolation: The Post-Return Protocol

Upon landing, Shubhanshu Shukla will go through seven days of medically isolated rehabilitation procedures. Astronauts who have experienced microgravity must go through this protocol since their body has to adjust back to the gravity of the Earth gradually.

The rehab consists of physical reconditioning, medical supervision, cardiovascular evaluation, and psychological assistance. The isolation will help stabilize his vitals before resuming normal engagements or socialization with people, as reported by Deccan Herald.

ISRO equally highlighted that the data gathered by this post-mission phase will guide India in the preparation of long-term missions, such as the Gagan Yaan, which will launch Indian astronauts into low-Earth orbit under Indian soil.

A Mission That Inspired the Nation

It is true that not only how Shubhanshu Shukla travelled in space has been a technological breakthrough but also an inspiration to the nation. His live talks in the ISS have instigated the desire to learn STEM education in India because of the interest created by him through his educational outreach and communications planned in the ISS. He will be closely monitored by ISRO as well as millions of people who have followed his mission.

This mission makes Shukla a representation of the growing participation of India in global space cooperation as well as the willingness of this country to join the club of long-duration human spaceflight states.
