Odisha train crash: A report in the Hindustan Times says a woman attempted to fake her husband’s death in Odisha’s train crash. Gitanjali Dutta, the woman mentioned in the news report, wanted to claim the compensation awarded by the authorities to the next of kin of the dead.The Hindustan Times, quoting Press Trust of India, said that Gitanjali Dutta told the authorities that her husband Bijoy Duttahad died in the fatal Odisha train accident.
She even identified a dead man as her dead husband. Gitanjali’s claims were later proven false when her husband turned up before authorities. He claimed that his wife was telling a lie.
Currently, Gitanjali Dutta is in hiding. Her husband has complained to the police and wants his wife arrested for lying about his death.
If her claim had been accepted, she would have received INR 17 lacs in total, as compensation. This amount comprises INR 10 lacs from the Railway Ministry, INR 5 lacs from the Odisha Chief Minister, and INR 2 LACS from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund.The woman lives in Cuttack, Odisha.
Odisha Triple Train Crash
On June 2, 2023, three trains crashed into each other in the Balasore district of Odisha. The Government of India has ordered a CBI enquiry into the crash. Some people believe that saboteurs interfered with the railway signalling, thereby leading to the death of more than 275 people.
Reports say that more than 1,000 people have been injured in this accident.
Railway Traffic Resumes
According to the latest available reports, one of the trains involved in the accident will resume its operations today.The Howrah-Chennai Coromandel Express will begin its normal operations on June 7, Railway Ministry says.
Furthermore, the up and down tracks in the Balasore district are also being cleared for normal traffic.
