Women look good even if they wear nothing, says Baba Ramdev. Women’s commission issues notice to him

Baba Ramdev: Maharashtra State Women Commission sent a notice to yoga guru Baba Ramdev over his objectionable comments on women. Ramdev has three days to respond to the notice.

“The Commission has been informed that one of your comments was disrespectful and violated the honour and respect of women. The commission’s office has received a complaint. As a result, per sections 12 (2) and 12 (3) of the Maharashtra State Commission for Women, 1993, the commission orders Baba Ramdev to provide the commission office with an explanation of his statement within three days,” wrote Rupali Chakankar of the Women Commission in her letter to the yoga master.

In Baba’s eyes

Baba Ramdev was attending a function in Thane on Friday when he said, “Women look good in sarees, women look good in salwar kameez, and in my eyes, they look good even if they wear nothing.” Deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis’ wife Amrita Fadnavis and chief minister Eknath Shinde’s son who is also an MP Shrikant Shinde were present at the event.

The Women Commission said in the notice that Baba Ramdev’s remarks were an insult to women.

Remarks reflect Baba’s mentality

Deputy chairperson of the Maharashtra Legislative Council Neelam Gorhe also slammed Baba Ramdev for his remark. She said the remarks were a reflection of Ramdev’s mentality.

“He preaches to society about moderation and the benefits of yoga, yet his treatment of women is so contaminated that it is completely unacceptable. Not all men have this perspective on women. In her daily life, a woman interacts with several guys in her home, including brothers, friends, and colleagues. But it is unfortunate that so many men in our nation who identify as gurus have said such nasty things, she said.

Commenting on the issue, Shiv Sena (Thackeray) leader Sanjay Raut criticised Amruta Fadnavis for not protesting when the comment was made in her presence.
