AI Future: There has long been concern that artificial intelligence (AI) may imperil human survival. Experts have raised alarm about this technology, which theoretically may one day even develop alertness, ever before Al first made headlines. The book "I, Robot" by American author Isaac Asimov, which focused on this subject, was published in 1950. Then, in 1984, James Cameron's movie, "The Terminator" entered the scene and featured the murderer Al who brought about the end of the world. However, in 2023, businesses using this technology, governments and Al scientists themselves are voicing their worries. One Al researcher recently said that Al will be the catalyst for the first human extinction event by sparking catastrophes like nuclear war and virus outbreaks.
From Council of Scientific and Industrial Research
Shekhar Mande, a scientist and former director general of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), made the horrifying claim that the first causes of human extinction will be artificial intelligence, which will be followed by nuclear war and the spread of deadly viruses. According to a report, Al will also cause both of these occurrences. In a ten-part lecture series titled "Life, Science, and Everything" that is being held by Persistent University in Aryabhatta Pingala, Erandwane in Pune, Mande discussed a survey on Saturday. The lectures will start on August 19 and run until October 7.
AI Future: Can Cause human extinction
The terrifying predictions could actually come true. One such instance can be that Al may develop effective antibiotics which can destroy powerful bacteria. It may eventually be able to comprehend and use the RNA structure of viruses to assist develop harmful viruses. This depends on how far science has come. It may not be impossible for an advanced Al to be placed in charge of nuclear weapons. Therefore, a system flaw, a malicious actor, or even a hacking incident might cause the system to either create and release viruses across the world or just press the launch button of a nuclear bomb. Additionally, Al's potential for developing sentience is not even taken into account.
