Bhagwant Mann: Compensation Distributed Under “Mission Chardi Kala” in Punjab

By directly providing financial aid, the administration seeks to reduce the immediate economic burden on affected households and accelerate the rehabilitation process.

Acting on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Punjab government has intensified relief efforts under the “Mission Chardi Kala” and rehabilitation campaign to support flood-affected families in the state.

Cabinet Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak distributed compensation cheques worth ₹1.81 crore to 190 affected families across various villages in Pathankot district. The financial assistance aims to compensate for losses incurred due to recent floods and help families rebuild their lives.

Bhagwant Mann: Relief and Rehabilitation Drive

The initiative is part of the state government’s broader effort to ensure timely relief and recovery for disaster-affected communities. By directly providing financial aid, the administration seeks to reduce the immediate economic burden on affected households and accelerate the rehabilitation process.

Focus on Ground-Level Support

Officials highlighted that such on-ground distribution drives ensure transparency and quick delivery of benefits to those in need. The campaign reflects the government’s commitment to standing by citizens during times of crisis and ensuring that no affected family is left unsupported.

Long-Term Rehabilitation and Preparedness

Authorities have also indicated that beyond immediate compensation, the focus remains on long-term rehabilitation, including restoration of damaged infrastructure, agricultural support, and strengthening flood management systems. Efforts are being made to assess ground realities village-wise to ensure targeted assistance and prevent future vulnerabilities.

Government’s Continued Commitment

The state government reiterated that relief measures will continue in a phased manner, with regular monitoring to ensure effective implementation. The “Mission Chardi Kala” initiative is being positioned not just as a relief program, but as a comprehensive approach to rebuild livelihoods, restore confidence among affected families, and enhance resilience against natural disasters in Punjab.

Local residents have expressed relief over the timely financial assistance, stating that the compensation will help them recover from losses to homes, livestock, and livelihoods. Village-level distribution has also encouraged greater trust between the administration and citizens, ensuring that aid reaches the intended beneficiaries without delays.

Strengthening Disaster Response Mechanism

Experts believe that such targeted compensation drives, combined with proactive governance, can significantly strengthen the state’s disaster response framework. By integrating relief with rehabilitation and preparedness, Punjab is moving towards a more resilient system capable of handling future natural calamities more effectively.
