Bhagwant Mann: In a proactive step to tackle potential flood situations, the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government has announced robust preparedness measures worth ₹265 crore. The initiative highlights the state’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property by ensuring that preventive infrastructure and resources are in place well in advance of any emergency.

Comprehensive Flood Control Measures

According to Cabinet Minister Barinder Goyal, the Punjab government has taken a historic step by purchasing 9 lakh sandbags, out of which 4 lakh bags have already been filled with soil and kept ready for deployment in flood-prone regions. For the first time, the state has introduced jumbo bags, which will provide stronger barriers against heavy water flow, reducing the risk of breaches in embankments and protecting vulnerable villages.

This preparedness ensures that Punjab is better equipped than ever before to handle floods with minimal disruption.

First-of-Its-Kind Infrastructure in Punjab

The procurement of jumbo bags marks a significant milestone, as it is the first time in Punjab’s history that such large-capacity protective equipment has been bought. Officials emphasized that the state government has kept all necessary resources on standby to be deployed wherever required. This move not only boosts the state’s ability to combat natural disasters but also sets a precedent for future disaster management strategies.

Government Commitment to Public Safety

The Bhagwant Mann government has reiterated that public safety is the top priority. With proper planning, sufficient allocation of funds, and advanced infrastructure, Punjab aims to mitigate the damages caused by floods, which often disrupt rural and urban communities alike.

By investing in advance flood management systems, the government has demonstrated its dedication to building resilience against natural calamities. Farmers, villagers, and city dwellers in low-lying regions are expected to benefit directly from these proactive measures.

The announcement reflects the Mann government’s vision of ensuring that no community in Punjab feels left unprotected during monsoon emergencies.
