According to information shared by Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, special enforcement teams deployed by the state government conducted inspections in the industrial hubs of Mandi Gobindgarh and Khanna. During the operation, officials reportedly seized goods worth around ₹7 crore that were allegedly being bought and sold using fake invoices.
The government stated that more than 200 vehicles were checked as part of the drive aimed at identifying cases of tax evasion and ensuring compliance with taxation regulations. Authorities said the operation resulted in the imposition of penalties amounting to approximately ₹3.5 crore.
Officials maintain that the campaign is part of broader efforts to strengthen revenue collection, improve tax compliance, and prevent financial losses to the state exchequer. The government has emphasized that tackling tax evasion is essential for generating resources that can be used for public welfare programmes, infrastructure development, and other government initiatives.
