The move is expected to directly benefit thousands of dairy farmers linked with the cooperative network across the state.

The Punjab Government, under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has announced an increase in milk procurement prices for farmers associated with Milkfed Punjab (brand Verka), effective from May 1, 2026.

Bhagwant Mann: ₹20 per kg fat increase announced

As per the decision, the procurement price of milk will be increased by ₹20 per kilogram of fat. The move is expected to directly benefit thousands of dairy farmers linked with the cooperative network across the state.

Focus on farmer income

The hike aims to ensure better remuneration for dairy farmers, many of whom depend on milk production as a primary source of income. The decision is seen as a step toward improving financial stability in the rural sector.

Strengthening rural economy

Officials stated that enhancing milk prices will have a positive ripple effect on the rural economy by increasing purchasing power and encouraging dairy production.

Boost to cooperative dairy structure

The initiative also seeks to reinforce the cooperative dairy model in Punjab, with Milkfed Punjab playing a key role in procurement, processing, and distribution under the Verka brand.

Support for dairy sector growth

With rising input costs and market challenges, the price revision is expected to provide relief to farmers and promote sustained growth in the dairy sector.

The decision by Bhagwant Mann reflects the state government’s continued focus on farmer welfare and rural development.
