Delhi Metro: The Delhi Metro Blue Line, one of the busiest lifelines for commuters in the capital, faced unexpected disruptions today, leaving thousands of passengers scrambling to adjust their travel plans. The issue was caused by a cable theft incident between Moti Nagar and Kirti Nagar stations, as confirmed by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
The Blue Line, connecting Dwarka Sector 21 to Noida Electronic City/Vaishali, caters to millions daily, making it crucial for hassle-free travel in Delhi-NCR. However, DMRC’s social media updates alerted commuters about delays, causing significant inconvenience.
DMRC Updates on Delays
DMRC informed the public about the issue through multiple updates. The corporation confirmed that train services were being delayed on the Blue Line due to theft and damage to signaling cables caused by miscreants between Moti Nagar and Kirti Nagar stations. Trains are running at restricted speed in the affected section, resulting in bunching of trains and extended waiting times for passengers. The rest of the Blue Line, however, continues to operate normally.
In a detailed statement, DMRC explained that repairs to address the cable theft could only be undertaken at night after the metro’s operational hours. Until then, trains on the impacted section would continue to run with reduced speed, causing delays throughout the day. Passengers are urged to plan their journeys accordingly and allow for extra travel time.
Netizen Reacts of Cable Theft on Blue Line
The incident sparked a flurry of reactions online. Commuters shared their experiences and offered suggestions for improvement: A frustrated passenger tweeted, “Underground metro was the solution, but no, you guys will build elephant-like pillars and then leave open wires on the sides of pillars which are prone to theft.” Another suggested, “This information could have been announced at the platforms and station premises as well, advising passengers to take alternative routes to avoid inconvenience.” Echoing the woes of many office-goers, one user wrote, “Are yaar sab late ho rahe office ke liye jaldi karo kuch tum log."
DMRC’s Plan to Resolve the Issue
DMRC assured passengers that repair work would begin after operational hours to minimise further disruption. While repairs will restore normalcy, the incident has raised questions about the security of metro infrastructure. The theft of signaling cables—a critical component—highlights vulnerabilities that must be addressed to prevent future incidents.
