Centre Announces DA Hike for Employees Under 5th and 6th Pay Commissions

In a major relief for government employees and pensioners, the central government has revised the Dearness Allowance (DA) for those still drawing salaries and pensions under the 5th and 6th Central Pay Commissions. The announcement comes just a week after a similar revision for employees under the 7th Pay Commission.

Centre Announces DA Hike for Employees Under 5th and 6th Pay Commissions

According to an Office Memorandum (OM) issued by the Ministry of Finance, the DA rate for employees under the 5th Pay Commission has been increased from 466% to 474% of the basic pay, effective from July 1, 2025.

5th Pay Commission officially concluded in December 2005

While the 5th Pay Commission officially concluded in December 2005 and the 6th Pay Commission in December 2015, a section of government employees and pensioners continue to draw benefits as per these earlier structures. Their salary and pension frameworks are still governed by the respective commission’s norms.

The revision ensures that these employees are not left behind in terms of inflation adjustment. Typically, when a new pay commission is implemented, the previous DA is merged into the basic pay. However, those who remain under older pay commission structures continue to receive DA revisions periodically to offset the rising cost of living.

This latest hike reaffirms the government’s commitment to supporting all categories of employees and pensioners, ensuring fair compensation and financial stability for retired and serving personnel alike.
