Uttar Pradesh has emerged as the leading state in India in terms of operational expressway network, strengthening its image as “Expressway Pradesh” under the leadership of CM Yogi Adityanath.
According to figures shared online, Uttar Pradesh currently has nine operational expressways spanning around 2,021 kilometres, the highest among all Indian states. Maharashtra follows with around 813 km across three expressways, while Rajasthan, Haryana, and Gujarat also feature among the top states in expressway infrastructure.

Over the past few years, the state government has focused heavily on infrastructure development through projects such as the Purvanchal Expressway, Bundelkhand Expressway, Gorakhpur Link Expressway, and Ganga Expressway. These projects are aimed at reducing travel time and accelerating regional development.
Driving industrial and economic growth
Experts believe that the expanding road network is playing a key role in attracting industries, improving logistics, and creating employment opportunities across the state. The improved transport infrastructure is also expected to support upcoming projects including the Noida International Airport.
