Durga Puja 2024: – Hemoshree Bhadra, who claims to have won the title of Miss Kolkata 2016, has ignited a social media storm after being photographed in a revealing crop top at a Durga Puja pandal in Kolkata. The model faced heavy backlash online for what many deemed as inappropriate attire at a religious event.
Bhadra was accompanied by two friends—one wearing a black gown with a thigh-high slit, and the other in an orange minidress with knee-length boots. The trio’s photo, shared by model-influencer Sannati Mitra on social media, was met with criticism from netizens who called the outfits disrespectful for the occasion.
Social Media Uproar
Mitra’s caption for the photo read: “It was so Rebellious, we never thought it was possible, being a girl we always knew our body is ‘BAD’ but life is like that it gives new examples and experiences [sic].” However, the sentiment did not resonate with many, who took to the comments section to express their discontent.
“I feel ashamed for her dressing in a holy place,” one user wrote. Another added, “Stop this type of vulgarity on puja mandap. This is shameful.” Other commenters accused the women of disrespecting religious traditions, particularly by wearing shoes and sandals inside the pandal.
Religious Sensitivities Highlighted
Several users voiced concerns that such attire undermined the sanctity of Durga Puja, with one saying, “This is not women empowerment. This is making fun of our Sanatan Dharm.” Another commenter urged the group to show more respect: “Sharam karlo thodi, bhagwan ke samne to acche kapde pehen lo (Have some shame, at least wear good clothes in front of God).”
The controversy highlights the ongoing debate surrounding modern fashion choices and their appropriateness in religious and cultural settings, with many questioning the fine line between personal expression and respect for tradition.
