Hydrogen Policy: The Maharashtra State Cabinet has adopted the State's Green Hydrogen Policy in order to promote Renewable Energy and Green Hydrogen Policy in Maharashtra. The State Cabinet has approved Rs 8,562 crore for the development of this strategy. Maharashtra has become the country's first state to implement the Green Hydrogen Policy. The first 500 Green Hydrogen-based fuel cell passenger vehicles will receive a capital cost subsidy of up to Rs 60 lakh per vehicle.
Hydrogen Policy: Why is it creating hype?
Green hydrogen offers certain advantages. It is a clean-burning molecule that can decarbonize a range of industries, including iron and steel, chemicals, and transportation. Second, hydrogen can be generated utilising renewable energy that cannot be stored or used by the grid.
Green hydrogen is currently not commercially viable. It would not be profitable until production costs fall below Rs 100 per kilogramme, which is currently around Rs 350-400 in India. This is the goal of the Hydrogen Energy Mission.
What is green Hydrogen?
Green hydrogen is hydrogen created by electrolysis of water. This just produces hydrogen and oxygen. Hydrogen and oxygen can both be used in the atmosphere without causing harm.
Know about its effect on common people
This will have a significant impact on the average person, as hydrogen has numerous applications. Green hydrogen may be utilised in industry and integrated into existing gas pipelines to power household appliances. When converted to ammonia, a zero-carbon shipping fuel, for example, can provide renewable energy transportation.
Hydrogen can also be used with fuel to power anything that requires electricity, such as electric automobiles and electrical equipment. Unlike batteries, hydrogen fuel cells do not need to be recharged and can operate for as long as there is hydrogen fuel available.
