Inspirational Stories: Unexpectedly, 18-year-old Sujal Singh chose to leave his spot at IIT Delhi in order to pursue a B.Tech in Computer Science at Delhi Technological University (DTU). Sujal Singh was given the opportunity to study civil engineering at the IIT in Delhi, but he chose to pursue his interest in computer science instead.
Balwant Singh, Sujal Singh's father, operates a towel stand near Noida's Great India Place shopping centre. Sujal Singh is from Aligarh, but he currently resides in Noida with his family because his father Balwant, 47, has been a street vendor there for almost 30 years. “I knew my child was capable, he used to study all day. Sujal woke up early in the morning and studied till late at night. Whenever I would wake up at night to get water at about 2-3 am, he would still be studying. He never spent much time outside with friends also,” Balwant Singh was quoted as saying by Indian Express.
Sujal attends the Govt. Boys' School at Mori Gate, and his father struggles to make even Rs 20,000 a month, but he is dedicated to providing Sujal with the greatest education possible. In grade 12, Sujal enrolled in online classes with "Physics Wallah" and achieved a 99.5 percentile in the JEE mains.' I never made my kids pursue a career; instead, I want to see them succeed in whatever path they take,' said Singh. In Delhi, Sujal's sister is working towards a bachelor's degree in science and preparing for the UPSC test. To make it simpler for Sujal to commute to DTU every day, Sujal's family has recently moved into a leased home in Delhi's Bhajanpura neighbourhood.
