Inspirational Stories: This is the tale of Ummul Kher, a frail 28-year-old woman with an exquisite smile who overcame all obstacles to pursue her studies and establish her worth. In the near future, Ummul will join the Indian Administrative Service (IAS).

Ummul Kher's Courageous Journey from Poverty to Education

Despite Ummul's best efforts, her tale is not a fairytale. Her constant companions have been poverty and a hereditary condition. In Ummul's universe, the sky had remained gloomy for a very long time. But nothing could break the woman's tenacity and resolve. She was aware that the ropes of fate were entwined around her small fingers and that she was destined to reach the stars. Nothing could stand in the way of her destiny since she was in control of it. Ummul grew up in a New Delhi slum where he was born. She had an environment of garbage stench and drainage for a river. Her dreams appeared to be exactly that—dreams, far away dreams. Their requirements were barely satisfied by her father's small tea shop. After finishing her studies at a government school through grade 8, Ummul was then enrolled there. But when things didn't seem to be going well for the family, they made the decision to close up shop and return to Rajasthan, where they had grown up. Ummul took a chance on her family's abandonment to stay behind and concentrate on her studies since she was determined not to lose up on her education. She realised that education was the only way to achieve her goals in life. Her parents disowned her since they had a strong disagreement with her choice.

Ummul Kher's Educational Journey and Changing Fortunes

Ummul was helped by a teacher and accepted into a private school because she had fared so well in her academics. She purchased a little cottage in the Trilokpuri neighbourhood and took tuition in her spare time to cover living expenses. Her students were the children of auto rickshaw drivers and iron workers, hence she was paid a pitiful INR 50–100 each pupil. Even though it wasn't much, she was doing great. She received a perfect score on her 12th grade exam and was accepted into Delhi University's Gargi College. She continued and completed her graduate work at Jawaharlal Nehru University for her master's in international relations. She successfully applied for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in this case, earning a monthly salary of INR 25,000 per month as a result. Her fortune appeared to be changing all of a sudden. She didn't have to put in a lot of overtime to scrape by, and her efforts finally looked to be bearing fruit.

Ummul Kher's Inspiring Journey with Fragile Bone Disorder to IAS Success

Her adversary wasn't only poverty, though. She had to get past her problem as well. Fragile Bone Disorder, a hereditary condition, affects Ummul. Her bones are fragile, so even a slight accident could result in excruciating pain. She underwent eight surgeries, had sixteen fractures, and even spent months in a wheelchair as a result, but this did not lower rather than elevate her spirits. Despite all of her flaws, Ummul has come out on top. With an overall Indian ranking of 420, she qualified for the UPSC exams in her very first attempt. She worked hard to accomplish this moment, one she had long envisioned. She is incredibly tenacious and happy that she has finally achieved her goal of becoming an IAS officer.
